So, that's right I'm home. However, I'll get to that later.
The last two weeks I was in Kenya went by very quickly. The VBS that we had from August 3-7 went really well. Each day we had between about 52 and 56 kids with a total probably of around 60 kids that would have come through that week. At first things seemed to get off to a slow start in the mornings, but they picked up throughout that day. This week made for very busy days being at the church from about 7:15 until 2:00 or 3:00 that afternoon waiting for kids to get picked up.
It was the Wednesday of that week that we started doing things for the last time, and all the groups that we had been a part of all expressed that they were sad to see us leave and wanted to send their greetings back to our families and friends and churches. The last night that we were at the Mutangili's home was a Tuesday night. They served a dinner for the young adults that came and we just sat and chatted for two hours. That evening it really came to me a little bit of how God had been using me for the time I was there. There were times that it was not always evident to me how God was using me, but that evening some of the comments made assured me that I was being used by Him. One comment made by one of the young adults, Gerald, who was in the Tuesday evening Bible study group and in the worship team, was that he had seen missionaries around Plainsview before, but none of them had really come for their group, and to work with them, and he never really got to know them at all. When he said this I realized how much it meant to them to have had us there working with them as the main part of our ministry. I really think that a lot of the time it was just getting to know the young adults and spending time with them that was our biggest ministry and what they appreciated the most.
Overall I would say I had a pretty good trip. I feel like God used me and I know that I learned a lot about Kenya, and also about myself, and it also gave me an insight as to what I might want to do in the future.
I am home now. I left Nairobi on Thursday, August 13, and arrived in St. John's Newfoundland midnight Friday night. I arrived safely and am now spending a couple weeks with family before going up to Ontario to start my last year at EBC.
Thank-you all for reading and following along this blog for the duration of this trip. I will post on here any plans that I have for any future expeditions that I might have. Also, thanks so much for your prayers over the past three and a half months.
God bless you all,
Kwa Heri,
Steph
