A Clean Rug

So, this week there was not really much exciting going on. It was what I think will become a typical week for me here in Nairobi. I went to the things that I will be helping out with in the church, the young adults Bible study on Tuesday night, we went to an elementary school Wednesday morning when they have a short devotional time where they do a little singing, a Bible story and a prayer, I went to a grade four class, Friday afternoon we went to a prayer meeting, Saturday afternoon was practice for Sunday, and Sunday I played keyboard for a couple things in the two English services and then went to the young adults Bible study. These will be the things that I do on a regular basis. I will be leading the Tuesday night Bible study sometimes, and I think the Sunday morning one sometimes too, which is stretching, but exciting for me at the same time.
Going to the school Wednesday morning was not something that I was really interested in at first, and to be honest I did not really want to be there, but it turned out really well. The class I was in was two classes in one for that portion of the morning and there were almost 60 kids there. They knew their Bible really well, which I was impressed with and they were very willing and eager to participate by reading a verse or praying for the class, which I thought was great. So, even though this is not something I was expecting to do here I am glad that I will be getting a chance to.
One thing that we helped out with at home this week was cleaning the dining room rug. Catherine and I were trying to think how people in Canada would likely clean a rug like that and our first thought was that we didn't think too many people used rugs that size, the either had carpet or hardwood or tile flooring or something, then we thought that people use vacuums and when they really want to clean it use the carpet-cleaner-vacuum-type-thing that I don't know the name of. But, here is a different story, it's all done by hand. There were four of us doing it and it was quite fun actually. At one point Catherine and I were on our hands and knees with scrub-brushes getting it nice and clean while the other two watched for a bit. It made me appreciate the conveniences that we have in North America that not everone else has that we often take for granted, like a vacuum.
Anyways, that's about it for this week. There are still some places here in Kenya without rain, even though other places are getting it, but please continue to pray for that and for the people who are being affected by the drought. As well, I am right now thanking God for the young adults group at the church I am working with. They are an inspirational group when it comes to the Bible and prayer. They know their Bible incredibly well, and their faith in the power of prayer is so great. I am so thankful for these people, and I am learning things from them, I just hope that they might be learning a bit from me as well. Thanks for your prayers and support.
Kwa Heri,
Steph
